Beer News;

Tap NY was Sat. & Sun., April 27 & 28.  The crowds were big, friendly, and appreciative.  There were lots of very good beers and plenty of good food.  The weather was wet, cold and windy.  Luckily, Farmhouse Brewing (where I was working) was indoors, along with The North, Water St. and Bing Brew.  Beer Tree and Galaxy were up above, in a tent, with streams running through and lots of cold wind.  Galaxy got a gold medal for their Lime Stout, congratulations, Seth & Mike!

Jim Burt’s Bottle was the 27th .  We should hear some good stories at the May meeting.

The BIER Brew & Food Fest, benefiting Make-A-Wish will be Thurs. May 16, 6 to 9:30pm.  If you’d like to enter a beer or 2, send me your beer name, style, phone number and description.  Tickets are available through Eventbrite.   The judging will be the same as before, not blind.

Don Zwach is coming through, Fri. May 24th.  Some of us should meet up with him.

Galaxy is moving to the old Titchener building on Clinton St., big place, needs a ton of work.  Bing Brew is moving a few blocks to an old EJ building that’s being revamped, with a much bigger brew house.  Beer Tree is going to expand.  Farmhouse Brewing is getting a new Tap Room in Victor NY (East of Rochester, just off the Thruway, near the beginning of Rt. 490.  Water St. is being sold to a young guy I haven’t met yet and Kristin Andrascik, a long time Water St. employee.  So much growth in our local Craft Breweries, and we couldn’t be happier!

The 2019 AHA National Homebrewers Conference is in Providence, RI, about a 5 hr. drive for us. Club Night, decorations, costumes?  Don’t miss the biggest 3 days in Homebrewing, for the year, and you’ll at least see most of the Rock Stars of Homebrewing, and meet a few of them.  Rich, Jim & Carrie, Tom Owens, Don Zwach, and Dave King (2) are attending, anyone else?  Don is looking for a roommate, too.  Jamil Zainasheff is setting up a “Pint Night” of Heretic beers, for his birthday, Wed. night, and Denny Conn and Drew Beechum are having buses from the conf. center to their party at Isle Brewers Guild, I’m trying to get them to combine the parties.  Galaxy will be pouring at the Thurs. night Kick-Off Party!

Bernie was our Beer Steward, with help from Donna, Bob brought popcorn, Jason gave us a sheet of pizza, too.  Our old BIER Charity Fest tasting glasses are always nice and clean, thanks to Bing Brew Thanks, all!

.Homebrew Tastings;

James Dunn – Czech Pale Lager, light but tasty, low attenuation yeast (WLP802) left lots of flavor from all German malts and hops,  Great start, thanks, James!

Kris – Butterscotch Chi Cha, and no, it was not chewed corn and spit out, he used amylase enzyme.  Check the recipe, it’s a wild one, really different, light, refreshing, with good lime & ginger flavors.

Bob – Black Dog Lager, an all-grain kit, fermented with Saflager w-34/70 yeast, about 50 – 53°F, thanks to Winter.   That’s a tasty, dark lager, easy drinking.

Rich – NE IPA, with flaked oats, Pale Malt, dank hop flavor and aroma from Strata Hops, utilizing a 170°F whirlpool & dry hopping.  The Conan yeast was a repitch from Jim Burt.  Very true to style, in aroma and cloudiness.

Jim Burt – Black Rye IPA, nice roast level, medium bitter, so good!

Brian – Iron Flamingo Double IPA, this is a big IPA.

Tom – Maple Pistachio nut Brown Ale, but this one was freeze concentrated, twice!  Woo, so strong, with a big maple flavor.

Great beer, fun time.  Thanks to Binghamton Brewing.  Don’t forget, if anyone wants to write a review of a pub, a brewery, trip, etc., please do so, and send a copy to Josh and Me.  We’ll get it on the web, and you’ll be famous.

Next meeting is May, 8th.
